GreenTrips recently won the 2015 Governor’s Environmental Stewardship Award for Environmental Education and Outreach. We are glad to win this reward not only because we got the chance to meet representatives from other fantastic programs from across the state of Tennessee, but also because this award says a lot about our community as a whole.

 1.      This award shows that we are committed to growing our economy sustainably.

At our Awards Ceremony, Governor Haslam repeatedly said that these awards showcase how what is good for the environment is frequently also good for business. These awards go to companies, organizations, municipalities and individuals who identify ways to work across sectors and grow our economy while protecting our environment. Governor Haslam specifically mentioned Chattanooga’s Volkswagen facility, winner of the Building Green and Pursuit of Excellence awards in 2011 and 2013. At GreenTrips, we know our award is proof of the efforts and success of our fantastic employer partners. Thank you all!

GreenTrips accepts the award from Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Bob Martineau and Governor Bill Haslam

2.      This award reflects actions all across our community

Speaking of our employer partners, we were accompanied by representatives from the Amazon CHA1 Fulfillment Center, EPB, and individuals who have made taking and logging GreenTrips part of their routine. We are honored to have had our first employer partner (EPB) and one of the 2014 MoveRight Challenge winners (Amazon CHA1) with us at the ceremony. Amazon focused on carpooling, and was able to cut nearly 8,000 drive-alone trips during the 4th quarter 2014. Amazon’s success and the trips being logged all across our community show that no matter where you are you can get there with GreenTrips.

3.      This award is just the beginning

This is a great time for businesses across our area to get involved with GreenTrips. Not only can we help reduce demand for on-site parking and provide support for environmental and community goals, but we are also fun! We’re re-launching our MoveRight Challenge in August, and this is a great time for businesses to join as employer partners and compete to log the most trips. We’ll have special prizes for participating employees, special recognition for participating companies, and a special party to celebrate!

Strong support from across our community made the award possible.
